Music Mondays: Winter of Discontent
There is no contentedness in days as cold as these. I’m forever writing about the winter and how it cuts me. Once I’m in, and fully immersed, I can handle it, but it’s these slow painful days that creep down towards freezing that make my skin prickle and scream with every centimeter.
These songs are sad like winter, like dying trees and the black squirrel scrambling. Ice bowing power lines like cello strings pressed into action and the wind singes my eyes.
Go find these songs, on emusic.com or amazon, or itunes or wherever you go and make them your own. Or go to a freaking record store. Pick up a copy of Bon Iver, and Cat Power and I’ll bet somewhere you can find a copy of this Tattle Tale CD that was released in my early punk days, when wayward girls with barrettes in their hair and a passionate relationship with the cello would travel down from Portland and Olympia to wow the punks in the lesbian cafe on 14th street. Damn those girls made me want to play.
that cat power song is nice
